Phonological Awareness Skills on Smart board? Yes, please!!

For those of you who are dedicated to keeping "Literacy 1st" in your classroom, I think you will enjoy this Smart board file full of phonological awareness skill practice for your students!

My favorite thing about this file is that there are no pieces, word cards, picture cards, etc.  I don’t have to find room on my walls or pocket charts to use.

These are foundation reading skills that really should be practiced daily and all you have to do is simply click a file to open it and practice any time during the day that you wish.

The fact that you can change out different recordings and questions make this file’s duration endless.  The hardest part of the file, the set-up and linking of pages, is already done for you. I hope you enjoy!

Freebie Friday!

This freebie is going to be a little bit different. I presented a Smart board 101 training last Tuesday and I thought I'd share my hand-out (all visual steps) and my Smart board file that includes some examples of each game/activity taught. I know not everyone has a Smart board, but for those that do, I hope this helps provide the step-by-step directions one needs to begin creating your own games. (or at least enjoy the free games included as examples!) :)

Freebie Friday

My advice to new Kinder teachers - allow your students time to grow and mature before trying to present a 20-30 minute lesson where they do nothing but sit on the rug.  They simply can not do it and IF they actually stay sitting the whole time, I promise you lost their focus at least half way through it.  :)  Something that I've heard year after year, but helps remind me - a child can only keep true attention for about 1 minute for each year of age. Therefore, my 5 year-olds can handle just around 5 minutes before needing to get up, move, sing, dance, etc.

My freebie for you today is a Smart board file that provides links to many great Brain Break videos and also some good classroom management videos. The links can easily be changed to YOUR favorites by right-clicking on the record or note and unlocking it. Then, right-click again and go down to "link". Remove the current link that I've attached and paste in your own link. Just delete the picture of the old video and take a pic of your new one.  I hope these come in handy for you. I love to be able to introduce a game on the Smart board as a whole group and then transfer that game to a pocket chart version for students to play independently in centers. I've created a game great for number, letter, and sight word recognition. "Where's Herman?" Enjoy!

Spring is in the Air!

Well, spring break has been wonderful, but back to work it is. You know, the sooner we start back, the sooner we're out for SUMMER! I have noticed that some of my best sellers on TPT are the activities that also include a Smartboard version as well. So, I've placed my focus of my spring bundle to include a center or small group game/activity with a Smartboard version of the activity, along with worksheets that all coincide with one another. I must say this has been one of the most fun bundles to make. PLUS....it's Easter, so you know there's so many cute accessories at the dollar stores to use with your center games! Here's just a sneak peak at one of the activities.

How cute are those carrot eggs that I found at Dollar Tree? Well, that's just one of the activities that this bundle will include. Look for the bundle to come out within the next week! Be sure to follow my blog or store to receive notifications of new and free products :)

Dr. Seuss Freebie

I just love Dr. Seuss and Read Across America Week! We've had so much fun these last two weeks. Today was "Horton Hears a Who" - watched the video and then did a "text talk". I've always taught vocabulary and used think alouds during stories but never actually formatted it like this before. This format was modeled by other Kindergarten teachers in our district, so I thought I'd give it a try.....my students really enjoyed it. (of course adding the sound files really helped) Fun! Bloom's Taxonomy for SMARTboard

This is probably one of my favorite pages in my Jan.-May Ultimate Morning Calendar file that I've recently posted. It's been stressed over and over with common core standards to use higher order thinking in your classroom and Bloom's Taxonomy is a great way to do that! Being a Kindergarten teacher, I had to find a fun way though to do this. After reading a story, a student can go spin the spinner on the SMARTboard, which has each level of Bloom's listed on it, to determine which color of flower to choose for their question. Each flower reveals a question or question starter that is easy for the teacher to adapt and fit the story that was just read. My students LOVE this! Anyway, for those that would want just this page and not the whole Morning Calendar file, I have posted it as a single page product now:)

Today was my first day back from break and it was pretty productive - made some super cute anchor charts that I've "borrowed" from Pinterest, packed away my Christmas tree and anything Christmas related in my room, (Why is it that you always find something to put in your tub AFTER you've already closed it up and stored it away?!), set some new winter centers, and even finished my lesson plans for next week!
