In just a few short hours it will be Christmas and I wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year! With all the craziness that comes with the holiday season, it's always good to slow down and focus on what the true reason for the season is............Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior!!!!

January Homework Packet now Ready!!!

My students just love doing their homework. Sounds crazy, huh? It's true! You know I have about 85% completion rate each week of students that do their homework each night and return their folders to me on Friday. I really have to attribute it to these homework packets. They're fun for the kids and the parents love how easy they are to follow. January's is now available.......

Verb Rap Video

I love it when I stumble upon a video that ROCKS and this one definitely rocks! It's catchy, the students can get up and move, and most importantly, it teaches my objective. I guarantee if you play this a few times, all of your students will know that a verb is a word, it's an action word!!!

Teacher Gifts

Here's some fun teacher gifts that I've made. I made these little Oreo elf shoes for a secret pal.

I made this "box of sunshine" for my co-teacher for her birthday. It was fun to make, but hunting down only yellow things that the receiver likes can be a little challenging! lol

Ticket Out the Door

I've seen a lot of different versions of this idea of having students write or draw something that stuck with them today. This is a great way to review at the end of the day and for students to have things fresh on their mind because you know when parents pick them up and ask them what they learned today, they ALWAYS reply "I don't know" or "Nothing"! I just give them an index card,...oh wait..I mean a "ticket" for them to complete before they leave (get out the door). It's fun, they like it and I really enjoy looking at their tckets to see what each student found interesting or memorable.

Classroom Management Magic

Have you ever seen these little guys at the Dollar Tree? Well, pick some up because they work like magic!!! If my students are at their table completing a project of some sort and the noise level raises and raises....all I have to do is grab one of these and simply walk around their tables....INSTANT Silence!! Love it..You have to try it. Of course it may take a few times because you have to really play it up at first, saying something like "Let's see if I can find any table good enough, quiet enough, working hard enough that deserves to win a trophy cone today. Everyone will see it sitting on their table and know who's been working the best." (I have 4 on hand, but usually only give 1 out, sometimes 2.)

Teacher Evaluation

This week has taken my focus to my observation that my principal will be in on Thursday for. We are currently using the Tulsa Model TLE (Teacher and Leader Effectiveness) This model uses 20 indicators in the evaluation and it has been my goal to have several (well, at least 3..lol) examples/artifacts for each of the 20 indicators. OK....Listen up! Here's some words of wisdom!!! Don't wait and do it all at one time! I had even made myself some cover sheets for each indicator in which I've stuck post it notes on as I've done something that I've felt has related to the indicator, but going back and writing it now and trying to find pictures or copies of work....HA! What a chore! SO.........(note to self) Next year, as I do something, I will document it, copy any student work for examples, take any pictures of relevancy and place in TLE binder immediately. Sounds like a plan! Here's just a few of my many pages.

ABC Order - All in how you look at it:)

I was grading homework folders today and saw how this one little Kinder put her words in ABC order. This is great.....not what I intended; however, totally correct and acceptable for me:)

Mystery Walker - Classroom Management

This is the first year I have done a "mystery walker" and wow! I love it and so do the students! All of my students have a number, so I just put numbers on my chips. Anyway, as you're lining up for transitions out of the room, you grab a number (after I give my box a shake to catch their attention lol) and stick it in your pocket. No one knows (except you) who the "mystery walker" is so everyone must be doing their best job to "win". If the student drawn did excellent in the hallway and line, then they receive some reward. In my class, they get to move their number up on the behavior clip-chart.

Reindeer Fun

Today my class started our study on reindeer. I started with a concept map and took in all of what they already "know" about reindeer. Let me tell ya...fun times. Most were about how they all fly and land on rooftops, etc..... One student said "they have things on the bottom of their feet". Another raise her hand and said "I know, they're called horseshoes". Another said, "No, they're reindeer shoes". Finally, one of my quietest little girls raised her hand and said, "Mrs. Aguilar what I think they're trying to say is HOOVES"!  I made a reindeer write the room that has been fun too. Want it free?? OK!! Also, check our my store before Cyber Monday is over!!!! Good sale going on!

Count the Room - Christmas Style

I've just completed Unit 2 in our math curriculum, which focused on numbers sense 11-20. I was really wanting some form of informal assessment, so I made up this fun math center activity - Count the Room. Check it out!
