I just love this time of year! We are kicking off our Read Across America week on Monday, but you know that one week of Dr. Seuss just isn't enough! My co-teacher and I began our Seussivities (this is fun!) this past week. Here's a few pics of just a few things that we've done......

We had to try Green Eggs and Ham, of course! (I thought it looked pretty disgusting!)

We charted if we liked it or not...Most did (not me)
Then came the GOOD egg!
Everyone LOVED this one!

We created "Things" by painting our hands and used watercolor to paint our hot air balloons that are going to take us to "All the places that we want to go"!

Here's a look at some of the activities we've done and going to be doing. You can get all this HERE!!

Word Work Labels

I just posted my editable word work labels for free on TPT! Check them out HERE!

The Daily 5

Just a quick post of some pictures of how I manage/implement the Daily 5 in my classroom.
This is my management board for keeping track of who is where! If you click on the flower in the bottom right it links back to the menu board for selecting what day and rotation time I want.

Numbers 1-3 are for our Literacy times and the 4 is for math "NUMBER" tubs.

These are my word work tubs. I usually switch out the activities in them every 2 weeks. I try to always keep a "Write the Room", "I Spy", "ABC Order", and some type of "Sight Word" activity every single week.  I simply change out the activity according to what theme or holiday it is. The students love that it's a "new" game, but it's really just new clip art! I love that they are so independent with these tubs and I can focus on my small group at my teacher table! The other word work activities that I bring in occasionally are: play-doh, pokey pins, a puzzle, CVC word activity, stamps, magnets, Sight word watches, wikki stix, rainbow write........I could go on and on.  But the key to this is just to occasionally throw some of these others in because it keeps it fresh, but you also don't want to overwork yourself coming up with new activities!

These are our book boxes for Read to Self and Read to Someone. I let them keep around 3-5 books in there at a time. I also have them keep their writing journals in their boxes for "Work on Writing". The boxes are made out of cardboard and they work okay, but I would suggest using box tape on the bottom because I've had several that collapse and the books fall out. I have written a grant requesting a plastic version of these boxes. (fingers crossed!)

Freebie Friday

So, I saw this fun idea on pinterest for doing experiments with different Valentine candy. I just have to say that this would have been a really great project to do with a small group. We had very limited time today so I just divided the class between my aid and me, which was still 14 each and just too many to truly enjoy the observations. I don't know if it was the chaos of being Valentine's Day or the full moon, but they were just SOOO HYPER today:)
Anyway, here's a few pics of our experiment and a freebie I made for our recording sheet. You can get HERE!
