I have a dream...

We spent the week learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and diversity. What fun! My students were very interested in this subject and only had one moment where a student had mistaken MLK for "that man in the movie who killed all the aliens". I had no idea what he was referring to until another student helped me out by stating "yeah, I saw that Men in Black". So, apparently the picture displayed on my Smartboard resembled Will Smith?? lol The graphic organizer we completed on MLK Jr. was found at the Curriculum Castle. It was just the right level for my Kinders!

Another activity we did, which turned out to be one of my favorites, was the dove fingerprint painting. Each child chose a color of paint to represent them and made 25 fingerprint dots on their dove. Everyone rotated to the next dove and made 25 on that dove. This continued until they had made their "mark" on each dove. Diversity was the vocabulary word discussed and how we are all different but can live together in peace (hence the dove). They wrote "I have a dream.." on the top. I think they turned out cute!

Marshmallow Shapes

My students were so excited ALL day to make their 2D and 3D shapes with toothpicks and marshmallows! It was a hit and they did excellent.

I must say that I really enjoyed the shape cards and recording sheet that we used by http://sweetkindergarten.blogspot.com.

Freebie Friday!!

Whoa..this week has been exhausting!! I don't know who has struggled more with getting settled back down and back into routine, the students or ME? We had a lot of fun though with SNOW...snowmen, snowflakes, snowy days.... Everyone's favorite of course was folding and cutting out the paper snowflakes. (probably not my custodians favorite! lol) Well, here's to another week down! Enjoy a freebie!

Bloom's Taxonomy for SMARTboard

This is probably one of my favorite pages in my Jan.-May Ultimate Morning Calendar file that I've recently posted. It's been stressed over and over with common core standards to use higher order thinking in your classroom and Bloom's Taxonomy is a great way to do that! Being a Kindergarten teacher, I had to find a fun way though to do this. After reading a story, a student can go spin the spinner on the SMARTboard, which has each level of Bloom's listed on it, to determine which color of flower to choose for their question. Each flower reveals a question or question starter that is easy for the teacher to adapt and fit the story that was just read. My students LOVE this! Anyway, for those that would want just this page and not the whole Morning Calendar file, I have posted it as a single page product now:)

Freebie Friday!

Today was my first day back from break and it was pretty productive - made some super cute anchor charts that I've "borrowed" from Pinterest, packed away my Christmas tree and anything Christmas related in my room, (Why is it that you always find something to put in your tub AFTER you've already closed it up and stored it away?!), set some new winter centers, and even finished my lesson plans for next week!

Well, today is Friday so how about a freebie? My students always love coming in to "sign-in" on the SMARTboard. This freebie comes with directions on the second page to help you personalize it and, yes, you must have SMARTboard software for this freebie.
